Gravely Dealer of the Week – Hondo's Sales & Service – Sioux Rapids, IA

Hondo's Sales & Service has been in the outdoor power equipment business for over 18 years.  The existing business they purchased introduced Ariens products to the area in the 1960's.  Hondo's Sales added Gravely to their product offering in 2004, with continued Gravely sales growth each year.

The best-selling Gravely model at Hondo's over the years has been split equally between the entry level ZT series, the high-end residential XL series, and the 1-year commercial warranted HD series. Their most popular attachment is the hitch kit although the suspension seat has proved to be a popular upgrade for the HD series due to the existence of rough country lawn in the area.

Their motto is the focus of their business, "Your Zero-Turn Headquarters." With 18 years of experience, dedicated sales and service staff, and a great location, they have found continued success. According to Erik E. Mosbo "Hondo," owner, "The high-quality of Ariens' products and Gravely equipment have garnered us many lifelong customers.  We just don't see our customers wanting to trade their Gravely mowers for anything else. They are the best!"

Hondo's Sales & Service's tip of the week is, "High-pressure air is a good friend to any lawnmower, big or small. Blowing the debris from your mower after you are done keeps the machine clean and makes people look at the equipment. Sometimes a future problem can be avoided by going through this ritual," (i.e. a nail or screw in a tire or a stick wedged in an area that could affect a belt).

Numerous landscape professionals have taken advantage of Gravely fleet pricing. The money they save makes Gravely extremely competitive in the zero-turn market. The HD series with the one year commercial warranty has become a hit because they are easy to maneuver yet durable enough to overcome challenging mowing conditions all-day long.

"It's rewarding to meet our Gravely customers in public. They smile and say, 'I sure love my Gravely.' One customer said that in their household, their mower is not referred to as a lawnmower, it is, 'The Gravely.' If we could magically lineup all of our Gravely customers, you'd find all of them love their mowers — ALL of them. The Ariens company vision states, 'Astounded Customers,' and we get to see first-hand what that means." states Hondo.

Two Ariens Managers Receive DOD Patriot Award

Two Ariens Company employees were recognized today with the Patriot Award from the Department of Defense operational committee, Wisconsin Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Dan Barker, Value Stream Manager, and Dave Lutterman, Manufacturing Leader, received the award which honors individual supervisors for their support of Guard and Reserve employees. Nominations must be made by service members or their spouses.

Ariens employee and Guard member, Cody Krepline, nominated the two for the award. Krepline is a Team Leader at Ariens and a Sergeant First Class in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

In his nomination, Krepline wrote, "My supervisors at Ariens develop exceptional people and build teams, while recognizing and honoring my military service requirement and supporting my family while I am away serving on active duty."

The three-time combat veteran has earned a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendations medals, three Army Achievement Medals, two Army Reserve Component Achievement medals, and a combat action badge among other recognitions.

"Dan, David and Cody have made this a very proud day for all Ariens Company employees. All three exemplify the company Core Values," says Dan Ariens, Chairman and CEO. "We also take the opportunity to publicly acknowledge our commitment to all employees who are active Guards and Reservists."

Dan Ariens signed a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve on behalf of Ariens Company as part of the event. Employers who sign the document agree to recognize and support Service members and their families and to provide company managers and supervisors with the tools they need to manage those employees who serve.

Brigadier General Mark Anderson, Assistant Adjutant General for Army participated in the award ceremony and addressed the crowd of Ariens Company employees.

Gravely Sponsors the Planet Event at Arlington National Cemetery

This year marks the 18th anniversary of the Renewal & Remembrance event on July 28th with more than $2 million contributed to the care of Arlington National Cemetery to date. Gravely will continue to be part of this annual event where approximately 400 volunteers from over 100 companies participated in 2013.

Volunteer landscape and lawn care professionals from across the country will spend the day mulching, cabling, and installing lightening protection for trees, pruning, planting and liming and aerating more than 200 acres.  This is the largest green industry day of service in the country valued at more than $250,000.

Gravely is proud to honor America's veterans and leaders during this day of service by sponsoring safety vests for the event along with the welcome reception.

Gravely Dealer of the Week - Turf Depot – Salem and Manchester, NH

Turf Depot opened in 1936 as an Ariens/Gravely dealer from the beginning. Currently, Turf Depot operates two stores in New Hampshire — Granz Power Equipment located in Salem, and Still's Power Equipment located in Manchester.

Their best-selling lawnmower is the Gravely Pro-Turn 460. The demand for this particular model was recently demonstrated during a Fleet Sale of five Pro-Turn mowers to the University of New Hampshire!

They take pride in providing superior customer service by going above and beyond what customers expect. During their recent fleet delivery to the University of New Hampshire, Turf Depot's marketing department came along to assist and take pictures of the crew with their new equipment. The grounds crew was pleased to receive their Gravely mowers and the excitement of their partnership with Turf Depot was mutual.

According to Stephen Hebert, Director of Marketing for Turf Depot, "Getting our customers' replacement parts is also a priority. We operate a website that offers parts diagrams and online ordering. In addition to our website, ProPartsDirect.net, we publish a 275+ page parts catalog supported by a team of commercial parts specialists. Our call center operates 8 am -5 pm as the go-to parts team for major landscape companies, municipalities, and grounds crews across the country."

Turf Depot's tip of the week is to use rain days as an opportunity to perform routine maintenance and inventory landscape equipment. It goes without saying that a rainy day means a day in the shop, but it can be taken to the next level by creating an inventory of everything you have. Expedite the inventory process by using a camera phone to photograph each machine and document its model and serial number. There are even "apps" that assist in taking inventory which makes ordering parts or completing insurance claims much easier!

Stop by a Turf Depot location if you are in the area.
