Rated 1 out of 5 by Drive Control Broke Again Puchased from a local dealer in June 2014. Drive control broke after four uses. It spent two weeks at dealer waiting for parts. After two uses since repair, drive control broke again. So I get to load it up and take it back. Very disapointed. Paying 450 dollars for a walk behind mower, I expected to get better use out of it. Rated 2 out of 5 by Nice mower but has some design flaws we purchased this mower last fall. It cuts well, has good power and the cutting height adjustment and handle adjustment are first class. We have found however that the transmission design / belt / wheel assemblys are not up to spec. Flimsy plastic debris sheild broke allowing dirt and grass to get into the wheel gear ultimately binding the transmission, which seems to be all plastic and non-serviceable. Changing the belt is very difficult, which should be easy as this is a normal wear and tear part. The belt channel collects a lot of grass and also binds the belt. These issues should be resolved via a revised design approach and use of better materials for a mower that costs $450.00 Parts are also not stocked even at the local Gravely dealer who had to order a belt (3rd belt in one year).By contrast I have a snapper mower that is about 8 years old. I have had to replace some plastic parts on the handle, and some plastic decorative pieces have fallen off. But the mower always starts, has plenty of power, cuts well and have had ZERO transmission issues. It has a one-touch height adjustment like the Gravely, and an easy adjust/stowing handle too. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Mower I have used my new Gravely 5 times now. I have to say, this mower had big shoes to fill. I replaced my John Deere JS20 with this mower. I live in central Florida and have St. Augustine grass. The first time I used the mower the grass was wet and about 6-7 inches tall. the Gravely cut through it without a struggle. I was a little worried because of the smaller Subaru engine vs the bigger Briggs I had. It cut through it with no problem at all! I will say, the way this mower mulches vs what I had, there is no comparison! it chopped it into small pieces.I like all of the features, so far I have not used the bagger or the desk washout port. I use my blower to clean the deck. As far as the self propelled, it is very powerful in my thick grass and is easy to use one handed.as far as durability... I guess time will tell.overall I am very pleased with my purchase and recommend it to anyone looking for a mower to give you a better cut than what you will purchase from home depot or lowes. Rated 1 out of 5 by Wouldn't buy again. Very disappointed in this purchase. So many good features, but they just don't deliver. First, the electric start is worthless. Would start the engine fine when it was cold, but once the engine was warm it would just crank and crank without starting. I bag my clippings, so I am constantly stopping and starting the engine. Fortunately, the engine will easily start with one pull of the rope. The Subaru engine is probably the best part of this mower, but is prone to backfiring. The belt slips off this mower frequently as grass builds up under the belt cover. The deck wash feature doesn't work very well at all. You will need to service the underside frequently. After four trips back to the dealer, I just decided to learn to do it myself. The wheels will just fall off at some point. Luckily I have always manage to recover the bolt and reinstall. Still it seems like a poor design. The mower handle is designed to move forward out of the way for easy bag removal. Worked great until the cable broke.I really like the one touch height adjustment. However, you will need to be careful when mowing next to a wall or fence, as the one touch handle sticks out enough to catch and adjust the height when you don't intend to.Also, the screws holding the two covers over the belt under the deck work themselves loose and then the covers will get cut by the blade and end up in the clipping bag. This mower has been one big disappointment. Wish I wouldn't have bought it. June 22, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not a great experience My XD3 self propel unit quit working on the third time I tried to mow my yard. The belt needed to be replaced and I have been waiting on my service center to get a new belt for a week. If your yard is sloped and your lawn is thick you might want to consider a different model. The hose attachment seems to be ineffective as water only reaches part of the underside of the deck. If you want to clean your mower, you will need to spray the underside of the deck with a hose. When the mower worked, it did a decent job of mowing and seemed to be a nice mower. June 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Outstanding! Confirmed the choice over Toro I was somewhat skeptical when I fired the mower for its first time following 8 straight days of rain after overseeding and fertilizing a few weeks prior left the grass 8-10 inches tall and thick across the hay field that was my yard. To my surprise the most difficult part of the whole experience was fueling the strong Subaru engine. The engineers should have put the fuel spout at an angle like many of the competitor's with a larger opening for ease of refueling. After gassing up it mulched with an outstanding quality of cut in what was about as difficult of circumstances you can throw at a mower with tall grass that wasn't dry from the rain a few hours prior. It never once bogged down, sputtered, clogged up, nothing it just kept cutting grass and pulling me along as fast as I wanted to go. My only regret was that I waited so long to upgrade, I've told all of my family and friends about this awesome machine and even the guy that was trying to sell me on the Toro Recycler. Even my neighbors were checking it out as they struggled to get their yards mowed during this abnormally wet spring. Two Thumbs Up.Pros: Rite Hite, Deep Domed Deck, single lever deck height adjustment, Subaru engine, variable speed self propelled, wash out port, nice quality red paint jobCons: Fuel tank spout angle, fuel tank spout size of opening just bank on spending a few extra minutes pouring the gas extra slow. Nice thing is you won't have to refuel as often it runs about 60-75% longer (just over 2/3 of an acre of tall grass) between refuelling versus a Kohler Courage and a Briggs 4.5 hp May 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Super quality I have 5 boys, 2 of which are now teenagers and are mowing lawns in the city as a part time summer job.I needed a mower that was tough and yet easy to use.I looked at every model available and for the money this was by far the best one out there.I love the single handle to adjust the cutting height. That had always been difficult for the boys to do on our old mower. They mow about 5 yards a week and this thing is awesome! It has a gas filter at the gas tank. A great idea.only complaint.... I wish it had a choke. September 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Mower I bought 3 of these Mower's for my Lawn Mowing Co of 40 account's I was in the market of upgrading my mowers fleet of pervious HONDA Mowers. Upon the 1st time using the mower my customers really liked the cut quality & said it was a complete difference from the HONDA Mowers. I also noticed myself the mower does produce a really nice cut throughout the hole lawn & leaves nice clean lines in the lawn...The features I like about the Mower isThe Domed DeckHose attachment for cleaning175CC Subaru electric start engineEngine is more powerful than HONDA's 160CC engineSelf-Propelled3-in-1 MowerCon'sRemembering to plug-in & recharge the Battery for the Electric Start overnight....... Rated 4 out of 5 by The Gravely XD3 performs as it should. The Gravely XD3 performs as it should. The four wheel height adjustment is easy and quick. The grass is chopped fine and disappears leaving a well manicured lawn. The handle has 3 positions that adjust easily and can be moved out of the way to remove the bag. I like the electric start but the battery must have a good charge in order to start the mover. The one thing that has been annoying is the fuel tank inlet filter. As I pour the gas into the tank the filter reduces the air flow out of the tank and if I pour too fast the gas overflows. Over all I am pleased with the mower and would recommend it to others. Rated 4 out of 5 by Gravely solid mower I had a Cub Cadet that ran great until I hit a stump. The repair bill was going to be to high to justify so decided a new mower was in order. Looked at just about every brand available and ran across Gravely. I was not familiar with them so did the research.Based on price value, reviews, specs and the dealer I decided to buy one.I have mulched and used the bag. First thing I noticed was unloading it....it is heavy. This is proof positive you got a quality mower. So far starting has been one or two pulls....no priming just pull and go.Mulching...This mower mulches very well. If you mulch you should consider this mower.Bagging....my personal mowing choiceI really like the bag design (full size opening) and appears to be overbuilt (a good thing). Dumping the grass is MUCH easier than my old mower and removing the bag from the mower is a snap due to the adjustable handle design. Time will tell if the plastic that holds the bag to the mower will last. I would prefer metal tabs. This is a great bagging mower.Pros.....One handle depth adjustment....love it. Yes it can snag but so can individual height adjusters.Adjustable handle is great and moving to the upright position saves a ton of space in the garage or shed.Easy start.Cons....No speed control...full speed or nothing.Plastic tabs that hold bag...they are thick but will they be durable?????No swivel wheel option. My cub had swivel front wheels which I really liked.Still so far I feel this was good investment. June 18, 2013

Why Zero-turn?

You can cut your mowing time in half using a zero turn mower instead of a traditional riding lawn tractor. Here are some of the time-saving features of zero turn technology:

Maneuver Around Obstacles

The maneuverability of zero turn mowers allows you to easily mow around trees, flower beds and other obstacles in your yard more easily than with a steering wheel vehicle such as a riding lawn tractor.

Drive at a Faster Speed

Zero turn mowers are designed to cut grass nearly twice as fast as traditional lawn tractors so your straight line mowing speed is improved. A typical lawn tractor cuts at a speed of 3-4 mph while a typical zero turn mower cuts at a speed of 5-8 mph.

Mow in a Single Pass

When you get to the end of your yard and have to turn around and come back, you literally can spin 180 degrees and come straight back without having to back up and cut the strips of grass you would miss when making the turn with a lawn tractor.

Eliminate Follow-Up Trimming

With an unobstructed view of the cutting deck, zero turn mowers make it easy to cut very close to your trim edges – you can nearly eliminate the need to trim hard-to-reach areas with a push mower or a string trimmer after you've finished mowing.

Without a steering wheel, a zero turn machine may look intimidating to drive but most people become comfortable with the way it handles after just a few times mowing their lawn.

Steering a zero turn mower is easy. In fact, it is not that different from steering a shopping cart.

  • How to make left turn with Zero Turn
  • How to make right turn with Zero Turn

  • Forward: Push the handles forward.
  • Reverse: Pull the handles back.
  • Right Turn: Push the left handle forward.
  • Left Turn: Push the right handle forward.
  • Stop: Bring the handles back to neutral.

The key to driving in a straight line is to assure that the same amount of pressure is applied to each lever.
