Gravely Sponsors NALP National Collegiate Landscape Competition
The National Collegiate Landscape Competition is an annual three-day competition and networking event for students enrolled in interior and exterior horticulture programs at two- and four-year colleges and universities across the country. Each year, a different host location is selected, which gives the participants a chance to see different parts of the country and also increases the level of difficulty for some of the outdoor competitions. More than 750 landscape industry students demonstrate their skills in real-world, competitive events coupled with an outstanding career fair. The National Collegiate Landscape Competition provides landscape industry companies with unparalleled opportunities to meet and recruit next-generation landscape industry superstars. This years’ competition was held at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
Gravely participated as a Silver Sponsor. In addition, Gravely was a lead sponsor for the Truck and Trailer Competition, which gave students the opportunity to take a written driving test and then load a Gravely zero-turn mower onto a trailer. Once loaded, the students had to drive through an obstacle course in an effort to leave as many cones intact as possible. Winners of the Truck and Trailer Competition were:
- West Virginia University (Jason Abshire and Dustin Trychta)
- North Dakota State University (Trevor Zens and Garrett Schumacher)
- Virginia Tech (Wiliam Shelburne and Daniel Miliharam)
Gravely was also the lead sponsor for the Sales Competition, which allowed students to sell a landscape design, installation and maintenance project within a 10-minute time frame. Winners of the Sales Competition were:
- Alamance Community College (John Hawkins)
- Texas A&M (Colleen Weynand)
- Colorado State University (Kelsie Cady)
The National Association of Landscape Professionals Foundation is a $4.1 million foundation dedicated to advancing professional careers in the landscape industry. Through the foundation, Gravely awarded a scholarship to Connor Hagemeyer of North Dakota State University.
"The NALP National Collegiate Landscape Competition is a great opportunity for students across the country who have an interest in entering the landscaping industry," said Ariens Company National Business Development Manager Dave Ramirez. "Gravely is honored to be a part of this important event, which helps shape the future of the landscaping industry."
Gravely also presented an award to Cole Carpenter with Ohio Hi Point in Bellefontaine, OH for the faculty member with the most social media posts throughout the event. The check was presented by Ariens Company VP of North American Sales Ron Marcellus.
The Major Sponsor Product Showcase highlighted Gravely’s line of zero-turn mowers, the Pro-QXT two-wheeled tractor with brush and brush cutter attachments and the Atlas JSV Utility Vehicle. Industry, faculty members and students were able to talk with company representatives and allowed the opportunity to demo the equipment.
