Replaced a 1995 Honda rider with this mower. We use this mower to mow around trees mow banks and keep hours off our other Zero turn. We have around 1.5 acres of slightly hilly yard with some steep road banks and this mower works well for all my needs.

There are things that I like and things I dont and this is just my opinion or my likes and dislikes as the other Zero turn we have is a mid range 60" cut machine that we have had for 6 years and has served us well.

The controls require little movement to run and steer which I dont like, I like a little more travel. I love the foot control deck as most in this price range are hand adjustable. The park brake is in a good spot for me and easy to use. The engine has very good power and mows tall grass well. It did develop a small leak at the drain port where it goes into the engine block in the first few months but so did the Kawasaki powered engine we have on our other mower. I would like to see an Hour meter but not a big deal to add one. It is light weight and could stand a little more weight to mow the slopes but i get around by using angles to attack difficult areas I have to mow. The frame does twist and flex but it is not a solid tube like the more expensive machines and so did the old rider we had. If mowing tall grass the deck does leave a thick row of grass right out of the chute about two inches wide But all and all it disperses grass pretty well and cuts well. The ride of this mower is a little rough but my yard is rough in spots and in the smooth spots it rides pretty well and the seat is comfortable for a cheaper seat.

All And all I like this little ZT 50. We got a good deal on it from our dealer. I knew when I purchased this mower what i was getting. It is NOT a sold frame, Heavy duty, manufactured deck, $5000+ dollar Zero turn. With that said it is a good entry level machine that if taken care of should give good service life.

I bought the Gravely ZT 52 HD in 2012 thinking it would be a mower that would last many years. In the past year it has sheared off TWO crankshaft bolts that hold the electric PTO clutch on. The key way was found to be worn to the point it almost looks like there was a second key way cut next to it. This caused the clutch to turn everytime it was engaged, tightening the bolt slightly until it snapped off. I have contacted Gravely and sent them pictures of the crankshaft this morning. Waiting to hear what they have to say about it. I feel the shaft was not hardened properly for this wear to happen after only 121 hours of use.

Got a new Gravley. First year, seat broke in half. Second year hydro oil needs changed. Hydro tube on right pump too short, bent so it doesn't let fluid into right hydro. Then deck rips at weld when the blade hits something in the yard. Gravley says too bad. Never seen a riding mower last less then 3 years for a home owner. Junk mower, worthless warranty.

Comments about Gravely ZT 50 Zero Turn Mower:

We bought a ZT50 mower in 2011. We mow less than 1/2 an acre. In 2014 we had electrical problems. When we got it into the dealer we had bought it from, they said 'these mowers are known for that problem'. $75.00 later, and barely into this mowing season it seems to be starting to sounds like it might be having the same problem. Also, after less than 4 years of use, the frame broke, at the welds in the front, on both sides. The dealer chuckled when we told him about the frame, and then told us, we had bought the cheaper, bottom of the line model. I wish they had told us that when we purchased the mower. We did call Gravely to talk to them about our problems. They were very nice, and told us info about the warranty, that we had never gotten from the dealer. While we hope the mower can be fixed #we have spent a lot of money on it#, we will not be purchasing another Gravely. Disappointed in the mower, and even more in the dealer we bought it from.

I was in a pinch to replace my 8 yr old 48" cut rider that I sold. Look at several other brands and found this to have the smoothest transmission. Like the other review, my only complaint is the traction in reverse. I think it is do to low end torque because of awesome Kawasaki 22 hp engine. I have been told these soft tires are designed not to tear your lawn when they spin, and they don't. This is the only reason why I gave the design a 4/5. From what I have heard, Kawasaki is the best engine out there and the 22 hp is more than enough. The competition at equivalent price was a 20 HP Kawasaki. I am 6'4 and fit well behind the controls. Others I had trouble with the control arms hitting my legs. I also liked the low center of gravity on this unit compared to all others. Hill sides were not a challenge as I have heard with ZT mowers.

I was concerned about cutting time by going to a 42", but it took me 1 hr exactly when my 48" rider with 21.5 hp took me 1.5 hrs on an acre. This was also just the first time I used the mower. I'm sure I'll get better as I get used to the controls.

I encourage you to refrain from buying any lawn mower from a big box store. Customer service with an independent dealer is much better, and you have the confidence the unit was set up correclty the first time.

Generally, a positive overall impression of the ZT42. I use it this ZT42 for 1 acre lawn for up to 25 mowings per year (i.e. less than 25 hours of service per year). Gas tank on the smaller size (2 gallons) leads to frequent refills. Also, disappointed with the durability and quality of construction due to broken frame weld on the front support bar. Potentially a design issue or manufacturing quality issue.

Comments about Gravely ZT 42 Zero Turn Mower:

I've been at my home approximately 13 years. I've gone through 3 different mowers. One cub cadet zero turn(1980's model), one toro, and one husky. My yard was plagued with groundhogs and moles, so suffice too say, rough ground in most of my areas. Also, some heavy brush due to overgrowth from heavy rain and absence for work. I was using a self propelled 8.5 hp John Deere and it worked very well. I have .54 acre's with some 30 degree hills. It would take me roughly 2hours and 20 minutes to cut the grass and to some touch ups. I had been cutting with the push mower for 4 years after all of the riding mowers had broken from the rough terrain. Extremely exhausting. Did not look forward to yard maintenance what-so-ever.

I'm a mechanic by trade. Not a issue to repair a riding mower on any given weekend. I've had issues with them breaking due to the ground being uneven. I was recommended to gravely by my father, since he had purchased one, and told me that it is a very tough machine. Not disappointed whatsoever. Went from taking 2-1/2 hours to 28 minutes to cut the grass. Love this machine.

I have around 500 hours on mower and the front caster mount broke off machine the frame is very poorly built. I really like the way it mows but the quality of frame is very poor. I am shocked at how poorly this was built. I had extra supports welded to bottom because of the way it was built. I had it fixed because how much I like the way it mows and I already bought it. Unfortunately I will not buy another Gravely machine.

I've had a ZT42 for two full seasons now and it's one best investments I've made. Like a few others, I have a smaller lawn, less than 3/4 an acre, but the time from start to finish makes it possible for me to get back to everything else. The cut is great, performance is second to none, and it's just fun to drive. It didn't take any time to acclimate myself with handling either. When I was in the showroom looking at my options, two different people said that once I go with a zero turn, I'll never go back. How true that statement was...

I had to have a machine that fit my yard and three gates. The ZT 34 worked just fine. I had checked on several other models but came back to this one for what it did for me. I did not have to move gate post or build bigger gates. Mowing time down 50%. Learning to drive was really fun and I look forward to mowing . A strong well built machine.Highpockets

Could use the Gater blades for mulching which are not available for the ZT 34. Discontinued the 16.5 hp Briggs and Stratton intek which they should have kept and which I have on mine. I'm a

I bought my zt1534 new 10 years ago. I mow almost every weekend and still love this mower. Normal maintaining is all it has needed . It still looks new and works like new!

Horrible mower should have stuck with a Toro brand. Leaves grass uneven. No where near what I expected. Especially for the price. I will be contacting dealer asking for a refund. please try out before u buy. Won't start with turn of key you have to choke it. Crazy for being brand new. Also has no traction.

My new zt34 runs great, but.....
It is too narrow, as a result
Lades don't extend past the wheels
Wont mow close to tree with out rubbing the wheel on the tree.
                                              Wont mow under the shrubs
Wheels have to follow previous wheel tracks
Pay more and get 42 inch
                                              OR get a bigger gate
Other than that, great machine! A real go getter.

This was my first new mower purchase and my first Gravely. My acre and a half yard is uneven with both rises and ruts. It's a rough cut but the Gravely does a fine job. I have had it for three years and other than PM all I have had to do is replace the blades. It cranks every time and cuts no matter how high the grass gets. My neighbors, having seen the performance of my Gravely, have made the decision to purchase their own when they replace their current mowers.
