Does HD really mean heavy duty?

4

I bought my ZT HD with 60 inch deck in April 2017. I was very happy with the quality and the acreage per hour of cut. One year in and with 60 hours on the clock both front caster forks broke, leaving the caster wheels to wobble around and causing one to rub on the frame. Both were replaced by the dealer in a couple of days at no charge to me, but I had to do the delivery and pick up, which meant renting a utility trailer. I'm worried about the future of this machine. It looks beefy, but this should not have happened.

Competition did not compare! Gravely won my business

5

I shopped many competitive dealers before Gravely won my business. Looked at Hustler, John Deere, Kubota and others. The Gravely dealer knew his products and the competition inside and out.

Loved this mower

5

Great mower, used it for two seasons before it was lost in a garage fire. I'm back to this website to browse my next Gravely purchase to replace the HD60 I lost. My only complaint was it was TERRIBLE on hills. Really any incline at all. I had to add ballast in order to mow my ditches which I didn't consider to be steep. Other than that the only thing I had an issue with was an idler pulley broke on the blade drive. Pros were: it was fast, cut evenly, built well. I mowed 3 acres for a couple of seasons with it and the bagger attachment. The bagger worked quite well considering the immense output of a 60" deck! Also about $2500 less than a similar Green painted machine I looked at. I am going to buy another to replace the one I lost!

Absolutely wonderful

I purchased a ZT HD 60" Kawasaki. I couldn't be more happy with its performance. I mow about 2.2 acres. The terrain is a little rough but the ride is very good. This thing is fast and precise. Very nicely built.

Can't believe I didn't buy this years ago!

I have a very difficult yard with steeper than normal hills and uneven ground. My Big Dog Alpha MP suffered so many structural failures, I couldn't keep it out of the shop. Everything about the structure of this mower is at least three times as strong. The cut quality is fantastic! The Kohler smart choke is wonderful, and the fuel efficiency is great!

Why Didn't You Buy One Sooner?

5

When the tired old Craftsman I inherited from the previous homeowner blew up (literally), I decided I wanted a zero turn. I am a big researcher and review reader. I thought I had decided on an Ariens Ikon X, but decided I wanted to deal with a local dealer, who sold Gravely. Therefore, I initially planned on going with the comparable ZT-X, but after researching I wasn't sure I liked the idea of the EZT transaxles. Again, if I'm going to make a considerable investment, might as well get something that's going to last me a long, long time. Granted, I'm only cutting an acre, but still I'd rather have overkill than just enough to get by. My dealer was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, suggesting the HD made more sense than the XL, which is basically the same mower as the X with only a few minor upgrades. I couldn't be happier with the HD! The Kawasaki is quiet and smooth, and the deck just blows through everything! Control is excellent, requiring very minimal arm movement, and the seat is quite comfortable. You'll wonder why you didn't get one a lot sooner!

Right Choice...you won't be disappointed

I received this machine a couple of months ago and wanted to put it to good use before I wrote the review. I have 30+ hours on it and come away with this machine is a freaking tank. It cuts great, easy to use, controls are easy. I researched for over a year test drove Scag, Ferris, John Deere, Big Dog, Kubota and Simplicty...all fine brands I have owned in one implement or before in the past. Hands down this 52" HD ZT checks all the boxes for what I need. I got the Kohler motor and love it. My neighbor has the Kawasaki and loves his. We have another neighbor going out this weekend to buy his Gravely. Two more and we can rename our street to Gravely Avenue! If it had 10 stars for performance and durability...I would give it that. You can pay more and get less or pay more for features you do not need...but why? I want something that is going to last for at lest 7-10 years and I have found it. Nice job Gravely!

This is a great piece of equipment. I have looked at most of the zt mowers in the same price range and I would buy another one just like it if it stolen or destroy somehow.

Defective hydro idler tension spring

1

Lawn maintenance solo operator with 40 residential accounts. I broke two hydro idler tension springs within first 6 weeks of purchase. My dealer told me Gravely informed them this spring was defective. I lost $250 in tow bill to have mower towed to dealer and more lost revenue from second spring failure. Gravely rep was sympathetic but refused to reimburse me for $250 tow bill. Didn't get a replacement spring for a month. Gravely is not service oriented and doesn't care about the "little guys" like me. Will never buy a Gravely product again.

I would buy this mower again.

I got a great deal on a new 2015 model and I love it. It cuts so fast it's a blast to mow. The only problem I have with it is that the deck is so flimsy. I noticed the paint cracking in a few places but didn't even think it was the deck itself until the right spindle fell out on the ground. Had it welded back up and my welding guy had to weld all the way around the center spindle and 3/4 around the left spindle and in about 6 other spots. 5 year warranty on the deck? We'll see.

Shouldn't have waited...

2.5 hours, best lawn purchase I've ever made. I cut about 3/4 acre of St Augustine. I've owned a JD 155c and a toro ZT, those two mowers together can't do what this mower does. I'll come back once I've put some time on it, for now don't hesitate to buy this mower.

Gravely ZT HD 48 built to last !

5

Decided to purchase a zero turn to replace a cub tractor that I was never really happy with. Looked at 6 different manufactures in this price range and after comparing warranty, construction and engines felt the Gravely HD 48 definitely stood out from the rest. This mower has reduced my cutting time by nearly half ! My yard is far from being a manicured golf course . The HD 48 with it's larger tires and heavy duty construction handles my uneven terrain flawlessly without out scalping. The number of settings for deck hight definitely help with this . If you're looking for a zero turn with quality construction, that if maintained properly should last decades definitely check out Gravely. I'm glad I did !

2017 ZT HD 44

5

I was in the market earlier this year for my first ZT mower for my 3.5 acre residential lot. My property is "rugged" to say the least - lots of elevation changes, trees, rocks, and rough areas. Not the manicured golf course-like property they typically show in tractor ads. After months of research and visits to local dealers, my wife and were about to pull the trigger on a Hustler Raptor SD. On a last-minute lark, we visited a dealer at a neighboring town that carried Gravely, Ariens, Toro, and Ferris, non of which we had looked at before. After several questions, the dealer pointed us at the new 2017 Gravely HD. This was a big step up feature-wise from the Raptor SD - more comparable to the Hustler Fastrak, but about $600 less expensive than the Fastrak promotion that was going on at the time. Kawasaki engine, very heavy duty frame, 10 gauge deck, 22x10 drive tires, ROPS capable, HydroGear 3100 commercial transmission. We were sold, adding a promotional package that included ROPS, lights, and hitch for another $200. I have not been using this unit for very long, so cannot speak to long-term reliability/durability. Howerver, it has more than exceeded my expectations performance-wise. Outstanding speed, power, traction, maneuverability, and cut quality. I am very impressed. I am really surprised these things are not more popular than they are, given I don't see much on the market that competes feature and reputation-wise with this particular model at this price point. One note of caution. While the ROPS provides an added layer of protection (I have a 10' deep dry creek that runs across the front of my property, which I steer clear of), it can also be a hazard in itself. On her first day mowing my wife caught the roll bar on an overhanging tree branch, and almost sent the unit over backwards. We now mow all the open areas of our property with ROPS and seatbelt in place, and then lower the roll bar to mow under low hanging trees.

Dissapointed

I cut about 5-6 yards for close friends and family for extra income. I purchased this mower because it was built like a commercial mower without the huge price tag (or so I thought). I bought it new off the showroom floor in March of 2016. It now does not even have 100 hours on it and so far I have had to replace the throttle cable (it kept sticking), a leaky valve cover gasket, the deck belt consistently fell off when it had less than 10 hours on it. And the dealer says they have leveled my deck twice, but it still sits noticeably higher in the front than in the back. I would choose any other brand next time for the money spent (almost $6k).

2017 gravely zt hd 52

5

I just purchased the new 2017 gravely ZT HD 52 with the Kawasaki engine and wow it's a really nice mower.really like the new style and the larger tires and comfortable seat.the mower is built really well.strong frame and deck as well.I looked it over very well before I made my decision over other brands and gravely just had what I was really looking for in mower.like the 3 year no hour limit warranty.only grip I'd say about it is the new gas tank.no big deal but it's mounted under the seat and no actual gauge just a window view right below the front part of the seat and it's hard to tell how much gas is in it.but other than that gravely hit a home run with the new 2017 line up.I would definitely recommend it to anyone.thanks gravely!

Awesome

I've got a 2 1/2 acre yard that is rough! A lot of trees, hilly, muddy, not stuff you want to mow. I was using a John deer tractor and the front axle broke in half. I was looking at a Toro time utter for the price, but after the John deer broke in half I decided I needed a beefier model rather than replace the mower in 2 years. I have 20 hours on it and it has been awesome. Cut my time 75 percent between mowing faster (and much higher quality) and cutting way down on my weed eating. My first mow should have been a commercial for gravely. A lot of brush and hills. No problems.
